How to Overcome Stagnation as a Junior DevOps Engineer?

I'm a junior DevOps Engineer with about 1.5 years of experience. My first traineeship exposed me to various tools and gave me a good foundation. However, my current job at a large organization feels like I'm just a small part of a big machine, and I'm not getting the hands-on experience that I crave. I want to work directly with companies on their infrastructure rather than just focusing on code deployments with AWS EKS and monitoring tools like Splunk and Datadog. While I could specialize in these tools, I really want to dive into Kubernetes (k8s) and get my hands dirty. I've even set up my own k8s cluster to practice. But now, I'm feeling overwhelmed with a project to set up my friend's startup dev server on this cluster. I'm unsure where to start and how to break down the tasks. I'm also feeling a bit lost after a recent job rejection due to a lack of extensive hands-on experience. Any advice on how to navigate these feelings and improve my skills?

Getting overwhelmed is totally normal, especially when you’re trying to learn so much at once. It's great that you're setting up your own k8s cluster! To tackle your friend's startup project, start with the basics: replicate their current setup step-by-step on your cluster. Break it down into small tasks—like setting up just one component at a time. And remember, hands-on experience will come as you work through these tasks and face real-world issues. Consider reaching out to your dev team for collaboration; having their insights can be invaluable.
