How to Showcase Freelance Work in My Portfolio When Projects Aren’t Public?

I've been working as a full-stack developer on a freelance basis for over a year now, after spending several years in full-time jobs. Most of my work has come through connections and word of mouth, but I recently found out that the agency I was contracting for isn't getting many new clients, so my current project will be wrapping up soon. I want to create a strong portfolio to attract new clients and also apply for full-time positions. The challenge is that a lot of my work has been on internal projects covered by NDAs, and many of my clients are non-tech companies without strong online presences. While I could describe my contributions in detail, it seems like potential clients would want visuals to assess my work. Would it be a good idea to redesign some of the interfaces I worked on using Figma? Additionally, for a local business that has since closed, should I redeploy the e-commerce app I developed, using dummy data to demonstrate my skills? Any advice on how to best present my work would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, definitely build out some demo websites! You could showcase a variety of styles like e-commerce, plumbing services, and accounting. Using tools like Grok or ChatGTP can help generate any text you may need for these sites.

Thanks! Just to clarify, do you suggest creating entirely new demo sites or looking for fresh client projects? I’d like to redeploy the e-commerce app with dummy data, but how do you feel about using a URL from Netlify for that?
