I’m 17 and My Greeting Card Project Is Booming—How Do I Monetize It?

Hey everyone! I recently launched a greeting card maker as a side project, mainly to learn about SEO and web development. It's been crazy—within about three weeks, I've hit around 100k visitors a month, mostly from organic search. Given the potential for growth, I'm estimating it could reach about 1 million monthly visitors soon. However, I'm struggling with monetization since everything on the site is currently free. I've thought about using display ads, but there's a catch: I'm only 17 and can't open an AdSense account or use my parents' bank for payouts. I'm looking for advice on how to monetize without compromising the user experience. I've considered options like display ads (once I sort out the age issue) or even donations, but I'm unsure what would work best.

You might try asking for support through something like 'Buy Me a Coffee,' although I know it’s tricky because you need to be 18 for that. Maybe reach out to your audience for donations; some people are willing to support your endeavors!

100k visitors in just three weeks is incredible! I wouldn’t rush into monetizing just yet. Focus on growing your audience and maintaining that SEO momentum. When you're ready, consider adding premium templates or charged downloads in the future. Ads will be a viable option eventually, but starting with some paid features might bring in better conversion rates. Just sharing what I've learned! 😊

Thanks! It's a personalized card maker, and I plan to keep all the cards free. I’m thinking about adding some paid features that justify the price.

Just a heads-up, keep an eye on your hosting expenses with all that traffic. You don’t want any surprise bills! Make sure your current services can handle the load without charging you extra based on usage.

Good point! I’m using Cloudflare, Firebase, and Netlify. I’ve added some credits, and thankfully, I don’t have a credit card, so they can’t bill me! If I run out of credits, it just stops working.

Consider using a simple donation link. Just be cautious of people offering help; unfortunately, some might try to take advantage of you. Also, have you thought about using AI for advice? Tools like Claude can provide insights on site monetization without one-on-one chats.

I’ve asked Claude, but most options are limited because I can’t accept payments until I turn 18. I wish I could set up buy me a coffee!
