Hey everyone! I've recently upgraded my CPU to an i7-14700K and my GPU to a Sapphire Nitro+ 9070XT. I'm now wondering if I should upgrade my power supply to a 1000W model. Currently, I have an MSI MPG A850G 850W 80+ Gold PSU. Here's a quick rundown of my specs:
- CPU: i7-14700K
- Cooler: Liquid Freezer III Pro 360mm
- Motherboard: Asus ROG Z690-E
- RAM: Trident Z5 RGB 32GB (2x16GB)
- Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1TB & WD Black SN850X 2TB
- GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ 9070XT
- Cooling: 7x Lian Li UNI FAN SL V2 120mm plus 3 fans on the cooler.
When I used PC Part Picker, it estimated my total wattage at 769W, which feels a bit close to my current 850W limit. Does anyone have insights on whether I should upgrade or stick with what I have? Appreciate any advice!

Nah, 850W should be more than enough for your RX 9070XT since the recommended PSU is only 700W. You wouldn’t need to upgrade unless you're planning to go for a stronger GPU later on.
Honestly, 850W is solid. I’ve seen PSU calculators give crazy high estimates—over 900W in some cases—so if you’re not overclocking madly or planning for extreme cooling setups, stick with your current PSU.
If you're running your CPU at full load and overclocking, that's around 250-300W, plus the GPU could take another 320-370W. Adding in the motherboard and fans, you’re looking at a maximum of around 750W, leaving 100W for spikes. Since most of the time you won't reach those max loads, I think you're good! You could run a stress test to monitor actual consumption if you're still unsure.
