Is a 9070 XT with a Ryzen 5 9600X Too Much for 1440p Gaming?

I'm looking to upgrade my setup for 1440p gaming on a 27-inch monitor, along with a secondary 1080p 22-inch monitor for general multitasking like watching YouTube or using Discord. I've been gaming on a GTX 1060 for about 8-9 years, so this feels like a big step up. I want to play games like Expedition 33 and Helldivers 2 on decent to high settings without too much concern about performance. I've drafted a build on PCPartPicker and am wondering if pairing a 9070 XT with a Ryzen 5 9600X is overkill for 1440p. Are there any high-value upgrades I should consider? I'd love some feedback, especially since it's been a while since I've built a PC.

You're not overdoing it at all! Your combination is great for 1440p. Performance-wise, you won’t need to worry about dropping settings too often. I'm running a Ryzen 5600X with an RTX 3070 at 1440p, and it's a blast!

Awesome, that gives me confidence!

For League and similar games, that setup might be overkill. I run a Ryzen 5 9600X with a 9060 XT, and I regularly hit above 165 fps in many titles. If you're looking to save some cash, the 9060 XT is a great alternative and can still handle pretty much anything at high settings!

Will the 9060 XT perform well on high settings for games like Expedition 33 and Helldivers 2?

Yeah, you should be good for those games!

Honestly, this setup is solid for 1440p gaming. If budget isn't a problem, I'd suggest going for it! I looked over your parts, and maybe consider spending a bit more for the RTX 5070 Ti—it's only about $30 extra and offers better performance. But if you like your current choice, the 9070 XT handles 1440p really well!

I see your points, but sticking with the 9070 XT and opting for a 7600X3D might be more balanced for CPU-heavy games.

Thanks for the input! I might just go for the 5070 Ti then.

Not overkill at all! My friend's using a 9070 XT and he has no issues with ultra settings in modern games. You're in for a treat!

I think your choice is just right for 1440p, one of the best mid to high-end options right now. But do check for the best price between the 9070 XT and the 5070 Ti in your area, as it can vary a lot!

This setup is perfect for the level of gaming you're aiming for. But remember, if you can find better deals, consider the 5070 Ti over the 9070 XT! Some of the other cards out there have better features too.

Thanks for the heads-up on that!

Perfect combo! Just keep in mind that while you'll probably not hit 60 fps in ultra with RT on some demanding games, you're set for smooth performance for years to come. Plus, you don’t want to compromise just to save a bit now when you can get a future-proof setup.
