Is an idle temperature of 50 degrees for a GPU normal?

I recently built a new PC with an RTX 5070, and I've been noticing that it's idling around 50-55 degrees Celsius. When the fans kick in, the temperature drops immediately. I'm concerned because my previous RTX 3060 would run at about 34-40 degrees while idling. Is this temperature difference normal, or should I be worried about possible cooling issues with my new GPU?

If your idle temp is 50-55C and your fans aren’t running at that point, it should be okay. Just make sure to check how hot it gets under load. My 5070 Ti idles at around 40, but 50 isn’t alarming. Keep the airflow in check, though!

Good point! What case do you use to get those temps?

Yeah, that idle temp sounds normal. With the fans off, your GPU is passively cooled, and 50 degrees is pretty acceptable. Unless it heats up super high when you're gaming, you should be fine.

"Normal" can really depend on the room's temperature and your case's airflow. GPUs usually don’t engage their fans until they hit a certain temp, so if it cools down when the fans start, it’s probably working as intended. Just keep an eye on it for any unusual heating during heavy use.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. I guess I’ll monitor it during gaming sessions.

Not sure if that’s normal for your setup, but my 5080 sits at around 35C when idle. If your GPU has to run the fans at idle, you might want to check your cooling setup.
