I'm curious if anyone here has started using SMB over QUIC as a replacement for traditional SMB file servers. If you have experience with this setup, I'd love to know: have you noticed any speed improvements? How's the stability? Also, are there any downsides to keep in mind?

Are you on Linux? Because depending on your setup, like whether you're using the quic.ko, the performance can really vary. Just trying to get the best out of your file server connection here!

No Linux here—it's a Windows Server with a Windows 11 client. Just hoping to improve my connection to the SMB servers since IPsec has been pretty rough.

I wouldn’t expect too much from it. UDP isn't really the best for file sharing, you know?

That’s not quite accurate. QUIC does a great job for these applications! There's just a lack of implementations right now, which is holding things back. Building reliable network services can be pretty complex.

Seems like you're a bit behind on the tech here. QUIC isn't just a UDP transmission; it actually has error checking and ways to handle retransmissions at the application layer.
