Is it better to upgrade my aging PC or start fresh with a new build?

I built my current computer back in 2019, and while it's still functioning, I'm starting to wonder if I should invest in upgrades or just go for a completely new build. It's almost 7 years old, and I'm concerned about how much longer it can realistically last. This was my first build, and I typically have used pre-built systems before. Considering the current state of RAM prices, how much of a performance boost could I achieve with upgrades, and is it actually worth it? Should I bite the bullet and build anew? Here are my specs: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB DDR4-3200, MSI ARMOR GeForce RTX 2070, and a Corsair RM750x 750W PSU. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You don’t necessarily *need* a new PC, though if you want to upgrade your experience, a new CPU and GPU could suffice for now. Your current motherboard supports PCIe 4.0, so you'd have a wide range of newer GPUs to choose from. Waiting for DDR5 prices to drop might be smart too before going all out on a new build.

That makes sense! I think I’d rather hold off until I can get better pricing.

Your system is still pretty solid! Upgrading to a 5600X or better CPU and a newer GPU could extend its life by a few more years. In that time, you can save up for a complete overhaul with a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM in the future.

Honestly, if you can, I’d suggest upgrading to a 5700X along with a strong GPU like the 9070XT or something else in that range. It would definitely give your system a nice boost without breaking the bank. You can also check out some decent prebuilt options that fit into your budget!

Upgrading to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU like the 5700X or 5800X combined with a newer GPU could really revitalize your current setup. It totally depends on your budget and preferences, but for around $2,500, you could make some significant improvements!

I’m looking at a similar budget, do you think that’s enough?

Given the current economic climate, especially with RAM prices, I’d recommend upgrading to something like the Ryzen 5000 series along with a new GPU. I’m using a 5700X with a 7800XT myself, and it runs great!

Do you have a budget in mind for upgrades? That could really help narrow down your options.

I’m thinking around $2,500... give or take.
