I'm looking to upgrade my old PC since building a new one is pretty expensive right now. I'm currently using an i3 10100 with 8GB of RAM and an RX 580 8GB GPU. My plan is to buy a new 16GB stick of 3200MHz RAM to mix with my existing 8GB stick of 2666MHz RAM. I hope this helps since I'm experiencing a lot of stuttering while playing CS2 – sometimes I get around 140 FPS but it can suddenly drop to 30 FPS. I'm curious if this RAM upgrade will improve performance and what I should expect when mixing different speeds.

You can mix them, but you'll actually get better performance using just a single 16GB stick at 3200MHz. When you combine the two different RAM speeds, they'll both operate at the slower speed of 2666MHz. Since you usually don't need more than 16GB of RAM for gaming, the 3200MHz setup will be more beneficial than having 24GB at a slower speed.
Technically, you can do it, but you might need to play around with settings to get a stable configuration. If you use both, they’re likely to run at the speed of the slowest module, which means you’d still be limited to 2666MHz.
That's really helpful to know! Just to clarify, if I decide to buy an 8GB stick of 3200MHz RAM instead, it would still run at 2666MHz, right?
