I've got this really frustrating HDD that sometimes decides to stop working out of the blue, and then it goes back to normal the next day. It's making my boot times painfully slow because my system keeps trying to check it. Is there any way, maybe through software or the BIOS, to tell it to stop checking this drive? I'd rather not unplug it directly.

Honestly, why not just unplug it? It only takes about 10 seconds!
You should check if your BIOS has an option to disable drives. One thing to keep in mind is that if that drive is failing and has bad sectors, it can still slow down your system even if you disable it in BIOS. I'd recommend using CrystalDiskInfo to check the drive's health first.
Got it! I'll make sure to check that out.
Yes, you can totally do that! Just go to the SATA settings in your BIOS, find your drive, and disable the port.
Thanks for actually providing a real answer!
Too many wires, man. If unplugging was my solution, I wouldn't even be here asking for help!
