Is it safe to buy a “new, unused” Ryzen 7 5700X3D from China?

I'm looking to upgrade my computer a bit without jumping to AM5 just yet. Currently, I have a Ryzen 7 3700X and play League of Legends predominantly. I came across several eBay listings (UK) for a "new and unused" Ryzen 7 5700X3D from different sellers in China, all featuring similar pictures, prices, and product descriptions. While I don't mind the origin, the identical listings make me a little uneasy. I'm curious to know more about counterfeit CPUs and whether they are a real concern. Additionally, I've noticed some listings for used CPUs. Is buying a used CPU a good idea, even though it lacks moving parts? I remember warnings about second-hand GPUs during the crypto boom due to potential mining damage, and I'm wondering if I should be concerned about buying a second-hand CPU too.

If something is labeled "new and unused" by sellers from China, it often isn't true. Personally, I tend to think the opposite of what they say.

When it comes to used hardware, it really depends on how the previous owner treated it. If they took care of it, you should be fine. The issue with mining GPUs wasn't just about them being used for mining, but often because they were run in poor conditions. As for eBay, I’ve heard they generally support buyers in disputes, so that's a plus.

Check out AliExpress; I've ordered a couple of CPUs from there and they were all as described. Look for sellers with a strong sales history. But a lot of those eBay listings are likely drop shipping from Ali, which is why they look so similar.

I once bought a second-hand Pentium CPU from a seller and was pleasantly surprised; it worked perfectly. While I find the 'unused' claim a bit dubious, it could be that they have excess stock. Just make sure to check the seller's ratings!
