Hey everyone! I recently got a new HP laptop for playing Sims 4, but I've noticed it crashes when I have the charger plugged in. When I tried using my old laptop charger instead, everything worked fine. The output of my old charger is 19.5V at 65W, while the new one is 19.5V at 120W. I'm wondering if using this old charger could potentially damage my new laptop in any way? Any insights would be appreciated!

Using your old charger should be okay since the voltage matches, but it's not the best long-term solution. Your laptop's power management will handle it, but keep in mind it can't provide the full power that your new laptop was designed to use.
You can definitely use it for now, but it's not ideal for heavy tasks like gaming. The lower wattage might lead to overheating issues if your CPU/GPU is trying to pull more power than the charger can deliver. It's a temporary fix, though!
Yeah! Heat can be a battery's worst enemy.
I'd be careful with that charger. While it might work fine temporarily, your new laptop could end up drawing more power than the old charger can provide during intensive tasks. This can wear down your battery faster and lead to overheating. If you can, I'd recommend getting a proper charger for long-term use.
Got it, thanks for the heads-up! I'll look for a new one soon.
Definitely do that; it’ll save you trouble in the future!

That makes sense! I’ve noticed it gets pretty warm while using the old charger.
