Is it Worth Adding a Second GPU Just for Running Monitors?

I built my PC around 2020 and currently I'm using a 2070 Super as my primary GPU. I'm considering adding a second GPU to handle my additional monitors while using the 2070 Super just for gaming. I want to ensure that I'm not running any games on both GPUs together, though. Would it be practical to run two monitors on the secondary GPU and keep my main gaming monitor on the 2070 Super? Would these setups actually work, or would it just complicate things without any real benefit? I've read that dual GPUs usually don't improve gaming performance, which is fine because I'm not looking for that. I'd appreciate any insights!

Adding another GPU just for monitor support isn't really worth it. You'll just be adding more heat and power usage without any noticeable gains. It's likely to complicate things and introduce latency issues. A single more powerful GPU would definitely be a better choice.

Honestly, it's probably cheaper and simpler to use your 2070 Super for all the displays. If you're concerned about overloading it with multiple screens, maybe check if your CPU has integrated graphics. That way, you could use it for extra monitors and keep your 2070 focused on gaming.

Connecting all your monitors to a second GPU is generally a bad idea. It's unlikely you'll see any real performance improvement; in fact, having two GPUs can create more resource competition. It’s better to just use your primary GPU for everything to avoid extra heat and power usage. In most cases, a single strong GPU is the way to go.
