Is it worth switching to Ubuntu from Windows with an Nvidia GPU?

I'm considering making the switch from Windows 11 to Zorin OS, but I'm a bit concerned about the compatibility of my Nvidia GPU, specifically the 4080 Super. I've heard mixed things about how well Nvidia cards perform on Linux. Is it still a problem in 2023, or have things improved?

If you're on Wayland (especially with Hyprland), you might face some issues with Nvidia, but on other setups, it’s usually smooth sailing. I personally would steer you towards Linux Mint if you're just starting out; it tends to be more user-friendly compared to Ubuntu!

Zorin does have a Windows-like interface, which is why I was drawn to it too. But I’m definitely considering Mint now; can’t hurt to explore my options!

I switched all my devices to CachyOS, and I can't recommend it enough! It's been a game-changer, especially for our AI research at work.

From my experience with Fedora, while installing the Nvidia drivers isn't too difficult, I did run into some issues where certain games wouldn't recognize the GPU correctly. I had to tweak a few settings for games like Warmane but overall it works. Just a heads-up!

If you're looking for a gaming-friendly Linux experience, CachyOS automatically detects Nvidia GPUs during installation, making setup a breeze! I've had great results with it.
