I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming setup and could really use some advice. Right now, I have an AMD RX 9070 GPU and an Intel i5-12600K CPU, along with 32GB of DDR4 RAM, all running at 1440p. I found an i5-14600KF for $226 and I could sell my 12600K to help with that cost. The thing is, upgrading to the 14600KF means I wouldn't have to change my motherboard or RAM, which is a plus. On the other hand, I'm considering switching to AMD (AM5), but that option would require a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM, which is quite pricey. From what I've read, my 12600K isn't bottlenecking the RX 9070 at 1440p, so this seems more like a minor upgrade rather than a necessary one. I'm curious:
- Is upgrading to the 14600KF worth it at this price?
- Should I just stick with my current setup and wait?
- Or would it be smarter long-term to invest in AMD + DDR5, even with the higher costs? Thanks!

From a performance standpoint, moving from a 12600K to a 14600KF won't give you a significant boost. And considering the costs of jumping to AMD and DDR5, I'd recommend sticking with what you have for now unless you're itching to tweak things just for the fun of it!
Honestly, I think going for the 14600KF could be a decent move if you're looking for a performance bump. But at $226, it's a bit pricey; you might want to shop around a bit more. Jumping to AMD and DDR5 just seems excessive given how strong your current CPU is!
I wouldn't bother upgrading unless the 14600KF is brand new; there's a risk with the microcode issue that might affect performance. Plus, the LGA1700 socket still supports both DDR4 and DDR5, so waiting could be a good move!
Honestly, just overclock your 12600K. With a good OC, you'll hit performance similar to the 14600KF without the hassle of upgrading. It doesn't seem worth the money to switch right now!
If you're mainly gaming, the extra efficiency cores won't really help you. The small boost in clock speed is nice, but it’s not worth the upgrade right now. Stick to what you have if you're satisfied with the performance, but if you're in need of more power for demanding tasks, then think about upgrading later.
