Is it worth upgrading from the i7-14700K?

Hey everyone! I'm currently running an i7-14700K with 32GB of DDR5-6400 RAM and a 4080 FE. I game at 1440p ultrawide with a 144Hz refresh rate, primarily focusing on single-player games where I love cranking up the graphics to maximize the visual experience while maintaining a framerate over 120fps. I'm considering whether to upgrade to an AM5 setup, specifically the 9950X3D, or if I should just hold off for AM6. Also, how much longer can I expect my 14700K to perform well for my needs? Thanks for any insights!

I think you’ve got a couple of generations left with the 14700K. I recently jumped from a 14900K to a 9950X3D, and it’s been a fantastic upgrade for me. If you're keen on going to AM5, consider the 9800X3D over the 9950X3D for gaming—it’s performing just as well and might be worth the investment!

Yeah, I’ve heard the 9800X3D is really solid for gaming! Definitely a good call.

If you tweak your RAM to be a bit faster with tighter timings, you might find that the 14700K is still competitive enough. Plus, there's buzz about a new Raptor Lake refresh with potentially better specs, so I’d say hold off for now!

You might not need an upgrade at all unless there’s an issue with your current CPU. Also, keep in mind that once you go above 1080p, it really leans more on the GPU, so your 14700K should hold up nicely with the latest RTX cards.

In short, I’d say you don’t really need to upgrade right now. Just enjoy your awesome setup and wait for the next generation of CPUs.

Honestly, there's really no solid reason for you to upgrade just yet unless you're looking to throw away some cash. Your current setup is already quite powerful!
