Is It Worth Upgrading My CPU, Motherboard, and RAM to DDR5?

I'm currently running an i7 12th gen CPU paired with a 9070 XT GPU, on an NZXT Z690 motherboard, with a 1000w Corsair PSU and 64GB of DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RAM. I mainly play games at 1440p on an ultrawide 21:9 monitor, including titles like Helldivers, Destiny, Ark Ascended, Space Marines 2, and I'm planning to get Borderlands 4 at release. I'm wondering if upgrading to a DDR5 setup would be worth it and if I'd see a significant improvement in performance, particularly in FPS.

Before jumping into an upgrade, ask yourself if you're actually facing issues that a new CPU could fix. A worthwhile upgrade usually translates to noticeable improvements. What specifically are you hoping to change? How is your current rig falling short?

If you’re experiencing issues, then yes, an upgrade makes sense. But if everything runs smoothly and you just feel like splurging, it might be better to hold off. Waiting until the AM5 platform stabilizes could give you more options, especially with Intel's upcoming competition.

Your setup isn't bad at all! You could consider just upgrading to a 12900K, which should keep you running strong for a while. Borderlands 4 recommends an i7 12700 and either a 3080 12GB or a 6700XT with 32GB of RAM, so you're already in a good spot.

I have a 12700K with DDR4 and have thought about upgrading to a 9800X3D with DDR5. Honestly, I don't think it's worth it right now. You might see slight gains in your 1% lows and some improvements in average FPS, but with prices soaring, it doesn't seem justified, especially since I play at 4K! I'm planning to hang tight until Zen 7 comes out in 2028. That said, it’s totally your call if you want to upgrade sooner.
