I'm a complete beginner to DevOps and have only dabbled in Linux basics. I'm considering jumping into a junior DevOps or developer role, focusing on Linux and automation. With AI making strides in the industry, I'm wondering if my efforts will still pay off. Are Linux and DevOps skills still relevant in a world where AI is becoming more capable? I'd love to hear from people who have experience in this field!

You should aim to gain some experience as a developer first. DevOps roles are likely to evolve significantly in a few years, so getting your footing in coding could be beneficial. That said, many 'DevOps' roles often pull from operations backgrounds, so you could consider that route too!
I've seen most DevOps engineers come from sysadmin backgrounds. Coding knowledge is definitely a plus!
I've been in DevOps for 8 years and now work as an AI Engineer. Let me assure you, DevOps isn't going anywhere! Sure, some tasks may become automated, but that just means the focus will shift. If you're comfortable with Linux, you're off to a great start! You can definitely aim for a DevOps career in 2025. Most DevOps engineers I know are diving into AIOps and MLOps as well, but don’t get discouraged if you don’t jump in that way immediately. Start with the fundamentals: learn GIT, focus on CI/CD, and get into Infrastructure as Code and Cloud tools like Jenkins, Terraform, and Docker. Build real projects, and you'll be set for a junior role!
Wow, I really appreciate the detailed breakdown! It seems like a great time to get started. Thanks for the guidance!
Absolutely worth pursuing! Cloud infrastructure is here to stay, and while AI is a big deal right now, the number of people using it isn’t as high as you might think. The tools and services needed for AI rely heavily on solid DevOps practices and platforms. Don't let the current hype distract you from the foundational skills that will be crucial.
Thanks for the real feedback! It's nice to hear that I can still make this leap!
I'm also curious about this! What are some good resources?
Are there any recommended courses or certifications to get started? I’d love to know more about what’s available in this area.

So you're suggesting starting off in a development role first? That's interesting!
