Is My Computer Safe After Downloading a Game with a Virus Warning?

I recently downloaded a game from the Gametrex website, but it turned out to be a zip file. After extracting it with WinRAR, Windows Security flagged the game as containing a virus. I attempted to delete the file using the recycle bin, but it wouldn't delete, and then eventually, the file disappeared. I checked Windows Security again, but I'm unsure if the virus is completely gone. Can anyone help me figure out if my computer is safe now?

Just to be extra cautious, consider downloading and running tools like MalwareBytes, RogueKiller, and ADWCleaner. They can help detect and remove any lingering malware you might have missed with the built-in Defender. Better safe than sorry!

It sounds like Windows Defender took care of it for you since it usually quarantines flagged files and prevents them from running. To be safe, I’d recommend running a full scan with some reliable third-party antivirus software as well, just to make sure you've caught everything. Also, be cautious with game downloads from lesser-known sites in the future; it’s typically safer to stick with established platforms like Steam or Game Pass.

When Defender flags a file, it usually prevents it from executing and puts it in quarantine. You should check the protection history in Windows Defender to see if the file is still there. If it is, you can either restore it if it was a false alarm or delete it permanently to ensure it's gone. This way, you can confirm if your system is really safe.
