I'm having an issue with my Ryzen 7600x, which is hitting 75-80 degrees Celsius while gaming. Interestingly, the heatsink on my Phantom Spirit SE120 feels cool to the touch. I've reapplied thermal paste, even trying out a new MX-6, and I've used the big dot method for application. I can't help but feel that the heat dissipation between the CPU and heatsink may be influenced by other, more complex factors. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It sounds like you might not be making perfect contact with the cooler. Make sure you removed any sticker from the base and secured the cooler tightly. That could be the reason for the weird temperature difference you're noticing.
Honestly, 75-80 degrees isn't something to stress about. Those temperatures are pretty normal for a CPU under load. Just check your case airflow and the ambient temperature of the room to ensure everything's cooling efficiently.
Your temps are fine! Think of it this way: a CPU cooler is designed to handle significant heat, much like how a fan helps dissipate heat from a stove. If you're comfortable touching the heatsink, that's a good sign.
