I'm planning to build a new gaming rig since my current RTX 3080 setup isn't performing as well as I'd like for my needs. This is my second build, so I'm still figuring out the best parts to choose. I want a system that can handle high or ultra settings in most games, including AAA titles and some indie games on a 34" 3440 x 1440 OLED 165Hz monitor. Ideally, I'd like this build to last about 5 to 7 years. I don't prioritize FPS much, but occasionally I play games like Battlefield 5 or factory/simulation titles.
Here's my current parts list:
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5080 16GB OC ICE
- CPU: AMD 9800X3D
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite Ice (I know this might be overkill, but finding a white motherboard has been tough)
- RAM: G.Skill 32GB (2x16GB) Ripjaws M5 Neo RGB White 6000MHz DDR5 (CL 36-36-36-96)
- PSU: Lian-Li Edge 1000W 80+ Platinum
- Storage: 990Pro M.2 Gen4 4TB
- Case: Lian-Li O11 Evo with additional fans, considering an AIO for cooling.
I'm looking for advice on parts compatibility and whether it's worthwhile to spend an extra $1600 for the 5090. Thanks in advance!

Your build looks solid overall! I have something similar, but running at 4K. I actually went for a Zotac 5080 and a Fractal North case. You don't need a 1000W PSU; an 850W is typically enough for the 5080. I totally get your hesitation about splurging on the 5090, your current setup is already powerful enough for your screen resolution.

I appreciate the advice about the PSU size! I was just concerned about having some extra capacity, plus I like the aesthetic of the L shape design in 1000W. But you're right, an 850W should probably be sufficient.
