Is My Mac Mini Safe Next to a Radiator?

Hey everyone! I have a bit of a dilemma about my setup. I live in a chilly part of England and rely heavily on my central heating during the colder months. My Mac workstation includes a Mac Mini, speakers, monitors, a midi keyboard, and NAS storage. Currently, my bed's headboard is against the radiator, blocking heat circulation, but I need to move the whole layout. The only option is to position the workstation a few inches in front of the radiator. I'm concerned about whether this heat might damage my Mac or slow down its performance, especially when using demanding software like Logic Pro X. I've read that heat can harm electronics, but how big of a risk am I facing?

You might not have to worry about the Mac melting from the radiator, but it's still not ideal to have it that close. The real issue is the warmer air it would be sucking in, which can cause the fans to work harder and might lead to performance issues during your music projects. Try to keep the Mac off to the side or at least a few inches away from where the heat rises. Just as important, make sure none of your valuable records end up too close to that radiator!

Good call! I’ll prioritize keeping the records safe and maybe explore other furniture arrangements.

Heat is definitely a concern for electronics. It's best to avoid having your Mac Mini close to the radiator if possible. While it may not melt immediately, being near a consistent heat source can make it run hotter, leading to increased fan noise and throttling during heavy use. If you can, create some space between the Mac and the radiator to minimize heat exposure. Plus, you definitely want to keep your vinyl away from that heat! They're at risk of warping if they get too warm.

Thanks for the tips! I'll see about rearranging the furniture to get the Mac a little more breathing room.
