Is Pursuing DevOps as a Fresher a Good Idea?

Hey everyone! I'm a third-year student looking into diving into DevOps. I've heard that remote jobs in this field can pay better than some of the big FAANG companies. Do you think that if I build up a few projects—despite coming from a tier-3 background—I can land a remote job in DevOps as a fresher? I'm feeling a bit lost in my learning journey and could really use some advice.

Going into DevOps as a fresher can be a bit daunting, but it's not impossible! I started that way too. The key is to focus on building a solid foundation first. Joining communities like KubeCraft can help a lot, providing structure and a support network while you learn. It does pay well eventually, but you really need to put in the work first!

That sounds like a great recommendation! I'll definitely check it out.

Your expectations might need a bit of adjustment. DevOps jobs often require a solid mix of software and systems knowledge, which takes time to build. Most people start their careers with modest salaries and in-person roles to learn from peers. If you do want a remote job right away, be prepared for a tougher road unless you already have some experience.

I’m not sure that’s the best route just starting out. Most new grads end up in entry-level positions at smaller companies, and while the pay can be decent, it’s definitely not at that top tier you might expect. You'll probably need some experience to even consider remote work in DevOps, as it's generally seen as a senior role. It's important to get some hands-on learning in a more traditional setting first before aiming too high.
