I've been a lifelong Windows user, but I'm really curious about Linux. I know that Linux isn't the best for gaming, but I've heard its support is getting better. I mainly play games on Steam like Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Doom (please tell me Doom works on Linux!), and occasionally Roblox. So, I'm wondering: should I make the switch to Linux for gaming? Also, I'm a bit intimidated by Linux as it seems complicated. Are there good resources to help me get started? I'm also concerned about privacy issues like Windows possibly taking screenshots of my screen.

Yes, Linux Mint is a solid choice! Sure, it takes some adjusting, but it’s free and often performs better than Windows in specific games. Plus, you’ll have more control and can learn a ton about your system. Just keep in mind you'll need to tweak some settings when you first set it up.
You can definitely play the games you mentioned on Linux! A really handy site is ProtonDB, where you can check the compatibility of Steam games. Most should work fine now thanks to improvements in gaming on Linux lately. As for learning Linux, there are some great YouTube channels like Explaining Computers that provide guides, and I'd recommend starting with either Fedora or Linux Mint. They're user-friendly.
If you want an easy gaming experience, Nobara is a version of Fedora tailored for gaming.
Don't worry about Doom; it's well-supported on Linux! You might want to check out GZDoom and its forks. There are a lot of ports for these games coming out too, so you should be covered. Just ensure you have Vulkan support for the best performance.
Absolutely, Linux can be great for gaming! Just keep in mind, some big AAA games with strict anti-cheat systems might not work. Still, for most games, especially the ones you mentioned, you should be set! You can either dual boot with Windows or go full Linux, but I'd suggest starting with Linux Mint for a smoother transition.
Yeah, Linux Mint is super friendly for first-timers. Just back up your files and find a USB stick to install it. It's worth it!
I'd also add that the latest updates have made Linux gaming much more seamless. Proton does a great job of running Windows games now.
Gaming on Linux has come a long way! If you’re okay with not playing VR and avoiding some hardcore competitive games, you’ll be fine. Games like Minecraft run really well. Just install the necessary applications like Heroic to manage games outside Steam. Privacy-wise, yeah, I get the fear. You won't have those creepy Windows features on Linux!
When you decide on a distro, backup your data first. You'll need a USB drive ready to write the installer onto.
And for video games running on Linux, look out for those that run natively—it's a way better experience.
