Is the Dual Xeon E5-2860v4 Combo Worth It for Gaming?

I just picked up a motherboard with dual Intel Xeon E5-2860v4 CPUs from Alibaba for €110, and it came with 32GB of DDR4 RAM running at 2133 MHz. My friends have been telling me this setup isn't great, and I'm looking for some honest opinions on whether this combo can handle gaming. I also have a low-budget GPU, probably an RX 560. What do you all think?

Honestly, no. It's an old CPU, and modern gaming just isn't built for something like that. You would likely have a better experience with a newer single-socket CPU. But for that price, if you’re more into workstation tasks, it’s not a terrible deal.

I think it's pretty clear that dual Xeons are made for servers and workstation tasks—not gaming. You might run some games, but I wouldn't recommend it. Also, upgrading your GPU would help a ton, even moving to something like a 5500 or 5700 XT if your budget allows.

I get it, I just had to upgrade from an i3-4160 because it couldn't run anything! I was looking for a budget option.

If it were up to me and you're super tight on budget, I would look into getting an AMD AM4 CPU and an older graphics card, like a 1070 or a 580 8GB. This way, you can upgrade later as your budget allows without too much hassle.

Nope, not worth it for gaming. Better options exist out there.

Honestly, this CPU setup isn't the best for gaming. Those Xeons have lower clock speeds and games generally don't utilize all the cores effectively. Plus, the RAM speed is on the slower side. You're better off with something more modern if gaming is your main goal.

It's a bit of a mixed bag. While you might get decent performance, dual sockets are falling out of favor for gaming. Expect some lag and stutter in games. You could still achieve around Ryzen 5600 level performance, which isn't bad for the price, but it won't be smooth sailing for gaming.

Definitely check out some YouTube reviews on the X99 setups. They can give you a clearer picture of what to expect with dual sockets.
