Is the Ryzen 5700X a Better Deal than the 7800X3D for Gaming?

I'm currently running an AM4 setup with a Ryzen 3600 and just upgraded to a 5070 ti GPU. Now I'm contemplating whether to stick with a budget-friendly Ryzen 5700X for around $170 or to go all in for a Ryzen 7800X3D upgrade at about $700, which requires a full AM5 transition. AM4 X3D options are priced way too high for me, so AM5 is the way to go. Can anyone share insights on the performance differences between the 5700X and 7800X3D? I'm gaming at 1440p 165Hz, mostly open-world and AAA titles. I'd like to avoid more upgrades until AM6 becomes available.

If you're focused on getting through this GPU shortage, the 5700X is a reliable choice for now. By the time you're ready for an upgrade, you might save enough to grab top-tier hardware.

Check out some benchmarks for games you play. The minimum FPS on the 7800X3D is better, but it may not be substantial for 1440p gaming. It might help you decide if it's worth the investment.

The performance difference is definitely noticeable, but that price gap is pretty steep. I'd personally lean towards the 5700X. It's solid enough for gaming without breaking the bank.

Consider how much RAM would be included in your AM5 upgrade. If you're looking at 32GB, that adds some value, but still, $700 is a lot for just marginal gains.

For the price, the 5700X is definitely the way to go. If RAM prices stabilize, you could always consider an X3D later on.
