Is there a DevOps career path for those who want to avoid big tech companies?

Hey everyone! I'm CCNA certified with 15 years of experience in IT Support and I'm looking to transition into sysadmin and DevOps roles because I find them really interesting. However, I have strong feelings against big tech companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google due to their actions in the world, and I'd rather not get involved with them in my career. Is there a way to pursue a career in DevOps or a related field without supporting these companies? Or should I just throw in the towel? I know this might sound overly dramatic to some, but it's important to me. Thanks for your insights!

You're looking at something called on-premise solutions. If you want to steer clear of the big cloud providers, consider specializing in on-prem setups or smaller cloud alternatives. Finding your niche and becoming a subject matter expert can really open doors for you.

Once I get my funding sorted, there will definitely be opportunities in some new startups that aren't affiliated with those big companies. It's worth keeping an eye on smaller or upcoming firms!

Honestly, if you're serious about avoiding those companies, you might be in for a tough road. Most places use at least one of the main cloud services. But hey, who knows? You might be able to carve out a unique path if you're persistent. Just be prepared to be flexible!

I guess flexibility is key! Just hope to find a spot that aligns better with my values.

It might be tough, but I think you’ve got the skills to make it work. Keep looking for companies that align more with your vision, especially smaller ones that are socially conscious.
