Is Undervolting My GPU Likely to Crash My PC or Damage Hardware?

Hey everyone, I've got a 5090 Suprim SOC and I'm considering undervolting to prevent the risk of my power cables melting. I've been reading up on it and came across some conflicting info. Some folks claim that undervolting can lead to system crashes because it nudges the GPU to perform outside its intended range, which could make things unstable. Is this really true? If it is, what can I do to minimize risks? I've also heard that using MSI Afterburner to limit power might be a safer route. I've mostly seen concerns about games crashing rather than the whole PC going down. I'm just paranoid that if I undervolt, it might crash and damage my hardware. I'd really prefer to avoid that! Any insights would be appreciated!

Yeah, you can crash your PC if you undervolt it too aggressively, but the good news is that it’s unlikely to damage any other components. At worst, it might corrupt your Windows installation after multiple crashes. Generally, manufacturers keep a buffer on voltages, so you can back off a bit and still avoid crashing. If you do want to do some testing, tools like Furmark could help you find that sweet spot without pushing your setup too hard.
