Is Upgrading My CPU Worth It for Gaming Performance?

Hi everyone! I recently purchased a 9070XT and I'm currently using a 12400F CPU while gaming at 1080p. I'm noticing that I'm hitting a CPU bottleneck during games. With RAM prices going up, I'm looking to upgrade my CPU. I'm considering going for a 7800X3D, but I also wonder if a 9800XD would be a better long-term investment. Ideally, I want a CPU that can last me about 7 years before I need to change my GPU. How long do you think a 9800XD would keep me above 120fps at 1080p for both competitive and AAA titles?

First off, do you have DDR4 or DDR5 RAM? If you're on DDR4, you can stick with your current motherboard and just upgrade to a 14600K CPU for a noticeable performance boost. It’s a great way to improve performance without going for a whole new setup.

I’m on DDR4, but my motherboard isn't great for high-end CPUs. I really need to change my motherboard, RAM, and CPU.
