Looking for a Patch Manager for Windows, Mac, and Linux

I'm currently searching for a reliable patch management solution that can handle system and third-party applications across Windows, Mac, and Linux (Ubuntu). This has been a challenge, especially since we've had a bad experience with ManageEngine due to their poor support, even though their pricing is affordable. We've also tried NinjaOne, but it's quite pricey and we only need a patch manager. What are some good options that work across all three operating systems?

If you're looking for something specific for Ubuntu, Ansible might be your best bet! It allows you to run playbooks on a schedule and is highly effective for patch management.

After testing various tools, we decided to go with the best tool for each OS instead of relying on a single solution. It’s been a more effective approach for our large organization.

We transitioned to Automox two years ago, and it’s been fantastic for patching Windows endpoints, servers, Ubuntu, and RHEL. The only downside is that we don't cover macOS since we’ve been using JAMF for a long time.

Desktop Central has been my go-to patch manager. It comes with great tutorials and responsive support, which makes a big difference when you need help.

We're considering switching from ManageEngine to NinjaOne, which seems to fit our needs perfectly—especially for our Mac-centric design teams. Sure, it's on the expensive side, but we hope to make the switch when our contract renews. Just be cautious about adding another tool to the mix if you already have an MDM for Linux and Mac. Avoiding ManageEngine has been a priority for us!
