Is Upgrading to a 5700X Worth It for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I currently have a Ryzen 5600G, which I used without a dedicated GPU for a while, but now I've added an RX 9070XT. I usually game at 1440p and I've been experiencing some serious CPU bottlenecking in games like Battlefield 6 and Cyberpunk 2077. I've managed to get a boost of around 4.5GHz through PBO2+CO for BF6, which helped a bit, but I'm still seeing limitations in CP2077. I'm wondering if upgrading to a 5700X would be a significant improvement or even eliminate that bottleneck entirely. I'm also considering a used 5700X3D, but they're really hard to find in my area. Any advice would be appreciated! Also, would overclocking my 5600G help at all? I've heard some mixed things about it.

The main issue with the 5600G is its lower cache compared to the regular AM4 chips. The 5700X offers more cores and cache, so it should help you handle what the 9070XT can deliver in Cyberpunk at 1440p. There might be some bottleneck at lower resolutions, but it shouldn't be major.

For an AM4 setup and your GPU, the 5700X is a solid choice for 1440p gaming. Just curious, are you planning to move to AM5 anytime soon?

Honestly, it sounds like you’ll still hit a CPU limit until you upgrade to AM5. Your GPU is solid, so I'd definitely recommend planning for an AM5 setup in the future. I run a 5600X with a 6750XT for 1440p, and I’m thinking about upgrading to AM5 as well.

So, do you think paying $130 for a 5700X isn’t worth it?

You can expect about a 10-20% improvement with the 5700X, which should help your 1440p gaming a bit, but keep in mind, if you're still on AM4, you're limited in how much it can help overall.

Upgrading to the 5700X is a great idea as long as you can sell your 5600G. You might still run into CPU bottlenecks, but for the price, it seems like the best option. If you want no bottleneck at all, you’ll have to look into AM5 with a 7700X, which is quite an investment at around $350.

You could consider grabbing the 5800X for about $159. I'm actually swapping my 5600G for the 5800X along with a 6950XT in my older build!

I don’t think the 5800X makes sense for me. From what I know, it has similar performance to the 5700X and it generates a lot of heat, which is why I’m leaning more towards the 5700X.
