Is Upgrading to a Ryzen 5500 Worth It for FPS Issues in League of Legends?

I'm considering a CPU upgrade because I'm having a tough time with FPS drops in League of Legends, often dropping below 60 FPS. My current setup includes a Ryzen 5 3500X, RTX 3050 OC, and 16GB of RAM. A friend offered me a spare Ryzen 5 5500 to swap in. Will this upgrade be beneficial for my performance issues, and do you think it will help with the stuttering and low FPS?

If it's a free upgrade, why not give it a shot? Just make sure your motherboard's BIOS is up to date to support the new CPU.

You could be facing issues due to RAM as well. If you're running a single stick of 16GB, activating dual channel by getting another 8GB or another 16GB stick could significantly help. But definitely test with the new processor first.

Honestly, the performance difference might not be great, or could even be worse. The 5500 isn't a top-tier chip, and it has less L3 cache than your current CPU, which could make those frame drops even more noticeable. Plus, you lose PCIe 4.0 support going to the 5500.

There's a big jump in performance from the 3000 to the 5000 series, so you might see better FPS. However, while the drops could reduce, they might not completely disappear. If you're really looking for smooth gameplay, consider the 5500X3D for the best results.

The Ryzen 5500 doesn't have much cache and isn't a huge upgrade from the 3000 series in terms of gaming. If you can, test it out yourself to see if you notice any improvements.
