I'm considering upgrading my i5 10400F to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. I know I'll need a new motherboard, but that's manageable for me. I want to make a move on the AMD side, but I currently have DDR4, and upgrading to DDR5 isn't feasible at the moment. My budget aligns with the 5700X3D, which I found for $280 at a local store, while it usually retails for around $350. The new motherboard would cost me about $70. So, is this upgrade worth it, or should I explore other options?

For $280, that's a really solid deal! The Ryzen 7 5700X3D is one of the best chips for the AM4 socket, and it's definitely a worthwhile upgrade from your current i5. You're not going to find much better unless you jump to AM5, which would be pricier.
If that's a brand new chip for $280, that's just above the MSRP! Seriously, go for it! You won't regret it!
Given your budget and not being able to upgrade to DDR5, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is a great move and totally worth it!
Absolutely, it's a massive upgrade for just $280, especially considering your current CPU. I'd suggest not skimping on the motherboard either—look for a decent B550 board around $100, not just the cheapest option.
The Ryzen 5700X3D is a fantastic choice for gaming! It's way better than your Intel chip, especially if you're sticking with DDR4 for now. What GPU do you currently have?
I'm using an RX 6650 XT.

I found a B550 PRO-VDH for $70, does that sound like a good choice?
