Is Upgrading to an AM4 CPU Still Worth It?

I'm currently using an RTX 3070 paired with a Ryzen 5 3600 and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Given the skyrocketing prices of RAM these days, I'm hesitant to invest in a complete upgrade including a new CPU, motherboard, and DDR5 RAM. I'm considering switching to a Ryzen 7 5800X since the performance boost from a Ryzen 9 5950X doesn't seem justify the higher price tag. Should I proceed with this upgrade now and save for an AM5 setup later, or is there a better option?

I'm in a similar situation! Finding used CPUs around here is tough unless they're lower-end than my Ryzen 3600. I kinda regret not grabbing the 7600X3D bundle when it was going for $500. If I spot a 5800X3D at a decent price, I'm buying it! That chip will keep an AM4 system strong for years. But honestly, considering your current setup, you might be better off saving for the AM5 transition instead.

Totally agree! The X3D chips are the way to go if you can deal with the higher prices, but if you're aiming for longevity, AM5 might be a smarter play.

Definitely consider the 5800X. It’s still a solid option even though the X3D is super tempting. Perfect middle ground if you're looking to save some cash!

Yeah, those X3D chips are pricey! If DDR5 prices are a concern, going for a 5800X now makes sense. Save up for AM5 when RAM prices drop!

If you're mostly gaming, just grab a 5600X or 5800X. The 5600X will be a significant upgrade from your 3600 and should serve you well for now!
