Is Using FTP on My Router for Music Files a Safe Option?

I've got a huge collection of music files that I've gathered over the years and I'm considering setting up a server on my router to access them instead of subscribing to streaming services. The only option I have for 24/7 access is through the router's FTP feature. Is it safe to plug in a USB and use the router's FTP server to listen to my music files on my phone's media player?

Honestly, FTP is not safe at all. It's a very insecure protocol that sends your data in clear text. You should really consider alternatives if you want to keep your files and access safe.

You might want to check out an open-source option like Copy Party. It's likely to offer more security updates and support compared to basic FTP, which is pretty outdated.

Using Plex media server could be a game changer! Their mobile app works great for music streaming. Just set up a Plex server and link it to your music library—makes things super convenient!

Totally agree! Plex is awesome. My partner and I use the Plexamp app almost exclusively for our music.
