Looking for a Reliable Domain Provider to Avoid Downtime Issues

Hey everyone! I'm currently using a small EU-based hosting provider, but lately, my site and webmail have been down often enough for me to notice. I keep encountering timeout errors, and the provider claims it's due to AI spiders making excessive requests. They mentioned they are upgrading their hardware and have countermeasures in place, but that only works temporarily. Since my site is the landing page for a web app with continuous ads running, I need it to be accessible at all times, especially for customer service. I'm considering switching to another paid provider. What should I look for in a new host to ensure my site stays up and running?

Keep in mind that no one can promise 100% uptime. The number of 'nines' matters—99.9% uptime still allows for about 9 hours of downtime a year, which is generally acceptable for most users. However, if you want 99.999%, be prepared to spend significantly more, as it requires extensive infrastructure. Consider if this is just a temporary issue with your current provider first; it might be worth upgrading your hosting. You can also look into implementing rate limiting or even using a service like CloudFlare as a quick fix to mitigate these current downtimes without a complete overhaul.

Thanks for the detailed input! I agree that 9 hours a year is already quite a lot of downtime.

It sounds like it's time to switch to a more reputable provider. Look for options with at least 99.99% uptime, robust bot protection, a global CDN, and separate email hosting. That should help keep your services running smoothly.

Thanks a lot!

If uptime is your main concern, consider going with larger providers like AWS or Google, as they offer around 99.999% uptime guarantees. That could give you peace of mind!
