I've got two machines: my main PC, which has a 6750XT GPU, and a home server with a K8 Plus and 780M GPU. Both are running Arc Linux with KDE Plasma and Wayland, but the server also has X11 running. I need a way to connect to my main machine remotely using RDP or VNC, but I'm struggling to find a solid solution.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- **KRDP with Wayland**: After some settings tweaks, I managed to connect, but it was super sluggish with no errors logged on the server side. It displayed the screen fully, but it seemed to have issues with scaling, plus my main PC's fans got really loud.
- **XRDP with Wayland**: I spent a lot of time tweaking this, but I only ended up with a black screen after the boot screen for about 10-12 seconds, just a cursor showing.
- **RustDesk with Wayland**: This didn't require much tweaking but was way worse in terms of performance than KRDP with constant jitter and flickering. However, the fan noise wasn't as bad.
- **XRDP with X11**: I followed the instructions for AMD GPU support on xorgxrdp, but faced the same black screen issue as with the Wayland setup.
I haven't tried KRDP or RustDesk with X11 as I ran out of time and patience. The remote connection isn't for anything intensive; I just need to monitor my server and perform light tasks. I could really use some advice on how to resolve this issue or recommendations for other solutions. Thanks for your help!

You might want to steer clear of RDP; it can be a bit slow and insecure. Instead, consider using something based on the NX protocol. NoMachine is a great option since it’s user-friendly and well-supported on Linux, plus it allows for 2048-bit SSH key authentication, so you don't have to remember passwords.
Sounds like you’ve tried a lot! Out of curiosity, do you think the choice between Wayland and X11 makes a significant difference for performance with these options? I'd love to hear if you find any pros or cons.
