Looking for Alternative Azure Cost Management Tools

Hey everyone! I'm reaching out because I'm finding Azure's built-in cost management and billing tools a bit too complex and not really catering to the needs of our resource and subscription owners. We're in search of a solution that offers effective dashboarding and automated reporting, allowing these owners to clearly see their spending and help with forecasting. Right now, we're considering Turbo360, but I've heard it can get pricey based on our overall Azure spend. What tools do you currently use, and what kind of value do they bring? I'd really appreciate any insights! - Athy

Depending on your budget, the Azure FinOps toolkit could be beneficial. It allows you to break down costs by subscription or resource group, providing in-depth reporting. For larger billing situations, like if you're spending over 1M monthly, using data explorers with ADX dashboards might be the way to go. We transitioned to DataDog CCM due to increasing complexity, and while it's been great, it is on the pricier side, charged as a percentage of yearly cloud spend.

If you're looking for something more visual, CloudHealth or Harness are great alternatives. I switched to Harness last year and discovered $20k in wasted resources in just the first month! While native tools are alright for small setups, I found the visuals to be a game changer.

I’m actually working on a cost management tool called Strato Lens. It's currently in beta and free to use while we gather feedback. The tool has great features beyond just cost management, and I'd love for you to check it out and provide any feedback! There's a Discord server linked on the site if you're interested in joining the discussion.

Vantage.sh isn’t bad either if you're looking for another option.

You might want to check out the FinOps hub toolkit from Microsoft. It's available on GitHub and seems pretty useful for managing costs effectively.

Azure Cost Management is solid, but if you're tech-savvy, you could build a PowerShell script using the Management REST API to fetch all costs by tags. I send this data to SharePoint for our finance team. Also, consider setting up budget alerts in the portal to keep track of your spending! Giving users RBAC rights to view costs by subscription could also help manage visibility.
