I bought an iBUYPOWER Y40 Gaming Desktop in 2023, but I've been really frustrated with my games freezing. After getting it checked out, the tech suggested that the CPU might be the culprit since Intel has announced some issues with their CPUs. I'm looking for recommendations on a new CPU and I'm willing to spend around $500. Any suggestions?

If you're considering a new CPU, I'd suggest just getting another Intel Core i7-13700F. With your setup, it might not be worth it to upgrade to a pricier option. Just make sure to update your BIOS after you get the new one installed. Also, check if your CPU is still under Intel's warranty – iBUYPOWER should help with the replacement if that's the case! Just make sure you've ruled out other issues that could cause freezing. Maybe try testing the CPU in a different system too for confirmation.
I feel you! It’s so annoying when the company can’t just replace a faulty part. Make sure you don’t settle for another 13th or 14th gen CPU if you think they’re not reliable. You might want to look into options from AMD as well.
Honestly, if you're fed up with the problem CPU, you might want to explore options outside of the Intel family, particularly AMD. They have solid CPUs that offer great performance and are often more reliable in terms of gaming. You'll have plenty of options around that $500 mark, just do good research on compatibility with your current setup.
I appreciate the recommendation! I'm definitely open to looking into AMD CPUs if they can deliver better stability for gaming.
AMD is worth a shot! Just make sure your motherboard supports the new CPU you choose.
Thanks for the advice! I reached out to Intel and they said I need to go through Best Buy since that's where I bought it. Best Buy told me they can only check it and not replace it since it's under a one-year warranty. I had checked a few months ago and the tech there said everything was fine other than the CPU and he even updated my BIOS for me. It's just frustrating when it seemed like the CPU is the problem and Intel has confirmed issues with the 14th gen too.
