Hello everyone! I'm a multimedia artist currently working on my own portfolio website where I'd like to include a blog to share insights about my field. Right now, I'm using GitHub, but I'm unsure if I should stick with GitHub Pages after finishing my site, especially since I want to include a blog.
Also, I would love to have my own domain like [name].com, but I'm currently unemployed and need a free domain solution for the time being. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you're a multimedia artist, have you considered using platforms like behance.net or dribbble.com for showcasing your portfolio? They might be good options, but I understand you're aiming to build a brand and a personal site.
I'd suggest trying Amazon Web Services (AWS). Even while unemployed, I've been able to host several static sites at under $5 a month by using private GitHub repositories together with AWS. You can register a .com domain through Route53 for about $15 a year, and the hosting can be as cheap as $1-2 monthly. AWS also gives you a year of free services on sign-up, so it’s a great way to experiment without initial costs. Good luck with your project!
.com domains typically cost around $10. If you're looking to be taken seriously, it might be worth spending that small amount. You can check out sites like porkbun.com for domain registration. Free hosting options often come with limitations, so if you want something reliable, consider low-cost WordPress hosting from places like Bluehost or Hostinger, but be aware you might have missed some recent sales.
GitHub Pages is a solid choice for hosting a static site, as long as you adhere to their terms of service. You can always attach your own domain later when you're ready to invest in one.
