Looking for Online Payment Processors for a Canadian Firearms Business

I'm building an e-commerce site for a potential client who sells hunting and fishing supplies in Canada. The challenge I'm facing is finding a credit card payment processor that allows sales of firearms and ammunition, even though the client has a physical store that complies fully with Canadian federal laws. I've already checked with Square, Stripe, and Moneris, and they were not options. We also tried Helcim, but it didn't work out due to the specific types of ammunition the client sells, which were deemed problematic. I even reached out to a local hunting supply store to ask what processor they use, but the response was super secretive. I'm currently waiting on a response from Elavon, but I wanted to see if anyone here has experience with similar situations and could suggest other payment processors or alternative solutions. Thanks in advance for any help!

Consider just stepping away from this project. If it's causing this much trouble, it might not be worth the hassle in the long run.

Have you asked your client who they use for in-store credit card processing? Sticking with that provider might simplify things. You could also give Chase a shot, though we recently shifted away from them due to security concerns. They seem more focused on profit than safety, so just be cautious with them.

You might want to check out competing stores' websites to see what their payment processors are. It could be a straightforward way to find a viable option. Also, visiting their physical locations and asking them could yield some insights – just be casual about it! Getting in touch with industry groups your client is affiliated with might also help.

Yeah, definitely ask the client about their competitors and see if you can find out what they use for processing!

You could try out payment processors like CorePlay, PaymentCloud, Payroc, or QuadraPay. Just make sure to reach out to each one to verify if they support operations in Canada.
