I recently discovered that my old Windows 10 PC automatically upgraded to Windows 11 while I was away. I never asked for this update, and I'm not a fan of the new version. So, I've decided I want to transition to Linux instead. I have some basic computer knowledge, but I could use recommendations for user-friendly Linux distributions to start with. I'd also love to know how gaming works on Linux. Will my games run smoothly, or will I need to tweak anything? I'm open to any additional advice and guides to help me with this transition.

Transitioning to Linux is definitely a learning curve, but if you’re willing to troubleshoot and watch tutorials, you'll get the hang of it. Enjoy the process and have fun learning!

You can also refer to online migration guides or find helpful YouTube videos showing the installation process. It’s super helpful to watch others do it! Most mainstream distros are pretty straightforward now.

A good approach is to download several Linux ISOs and use Ventoy on a USB stick to run live versions. It lets you test them out and see which desktop environment you like. For gaming, use ProtonDB to check compatibility. If you play competitive games, some may not work on Linux, but if you have AMD graphics, you should be good to go!

For a beginner, I'd suggest checking out Linux Mint, Fedora, or Kubuntu. They're pretty user-friendly! Most games run fine, but keep in mind that some, like Valorant and Fortnite with anti-cheat systems, might not work at all.

Definitely check out Linux Mint. It's easy to install, and you can use the Software Manager to get Steam and Heroic Launcher for games. Just remember to install them as system packages to avoid issues.
