My Cat Sat on My Laptop and Now It Won’t Work—What Should I Do?

So my cat just jumped on my Lenovo ThinkPad T495s, and now the keyboard and touchpad aren't functioning properly. I've heard a beeping sound when he sat on it, and the only thing that seems to work is the brightness function key. I've tried rebooting by holding the power button multiple times, but nothing changes. I really need to get this sorted out quickly since I have a deadline approaching!

Have you tried using the function key with F6 or F8? Those usually toggle the touchpad on and off. If your keyboard isn't responding at all, you might want to connect an external keyboard to adjust your touchpad settings through the control panel.

First off, check if any of your keys got stuck from the cat’s paws. Sometimes when they sit on it, they can compress a key, which stops it from working. Make sure you press every key to see if one is jammed. If you find a stuck key, try gently prying it up with a fingernail or a small tool if you have one.

Consider doing a hard reset. There’s a little hole at the bottom of your laptop near the right hinge for resetting the battery. Just flip it over, press that hole with a paperclip, hold the power button for about 40-50 seconds, reconnect it to the charger, and then try starting it up again.

You might also want to try a force shutdown. Just hold the power button down for about 15 to 30 seconds until the laptop shuts off completely. Once it's off, turn it back on and see if that resolves the issue.
