My Computer Keeps Dying: Is It the Power Supply?

I'm experiencing repeated black screens with no error codes, and I'm trying to figure out if my power supply (PSU) is the culprit. It started with browser crashes and then led to sudden blackouts. Now, upon rebooting, I typically only see a black screen. Occasionally, I can get into the BIOS (where I've reset everything to defaults and I'm not overclocking), but I usually crash soon after logging into Windows. I've already reseated all the hardware and cleaned some dust out. The BIOS shows that the CPU temperatures are normal, and all the fans, including the PSU fan, are operational. I thought I heard a weird noise from the power socket today, but I'm not sure. What steps can I take to confirm it's the PSU?

One good way to check is to use Memtest86+ to test your RAM. If the memory is faulty, it could cause crashes that seem like power issues. You can create a bootable USB and run the test. It’s super handy!

You might want to try swapping in another PSU, as it’s hard to confirm without one. If replacing the PSU doesn’t solve the issue, the motherboard could be the next suspect.

Ugh, now I'm going to need spare parts to test all of this. So frustrating!

Definitely try using Memtest from a USB stick to check your RAM, too. If you have multiple sticks, take out one at a time and test! That could isolate if the memory is at fault.

I had a similar issue, and it turned out to be just the power cable! After changing it, everything started working fine. It even had a warning message about a power surge in BIOS before I swapped the cable. Been solid for over six hours now!
