My iPhone 13 Took a Dip in the Pool and Now It’s Acting Strange—What Should I Do?

I dropped my iPhone 13 in a pool while it was in a waterproof case. I thought it was fine despite a few droplets getting in, as that had never been a problem before. After taking it out of the case, it slipped into the pool for just a second, but when I pulled it out, it turned on and seemed okay. I kept using it and put it back in the waterproof pouch after shaking out any water. However, a few hours later, the screen started to flash bright green and was too bright overall. It eventually stopped fully turning on and only showed a faded green hue. I left it charging overnight and while my alarm went off, the screen still looks weird. I've read that turning it on right after getting it wet might have caused more damage, but I'm not sure how long I should wait or if I'll need an expensive repair again. I'm a college student and really can't afford to keep replacing my phone! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Next time, it’s best to power off the phone right away and let it dry completely before trying to turn it on again. Just because it worked initially doesn’t mean the moisture can’t cause more damage later on. If you can, leave it off and dry for a couple of days to see if that makes a difference!

How long does it usually take for a phone to dry out? Is it too late for mine?

Honestly, considering how water and electronics don’t mix well, you might end up needing a new phone. But I get it—buying a new phone isn’t an option for everyone right now!

I know, right? If I had the cash for a new phone, I wouldn't be asking for help! Logic, anyone?

It sounds like your phone definitely needs some professional help. It’s likely that it needs a full disassembly and a thorough cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, plus possibly a new screen if the damage is serious. You might want to find a local repair shop that specializes in water damage—just make sure to check their reviews to avoid being overcharged!

Ugh, great. Apple is expensive, and I'm not sure I can trust local shops. Do you have tips on finding a good repair place without going broke?
