My Laptop Won’t Charge: What Should I Do?

I'm having trouble getting my laptop to charge when it's plugged in. I checked the charging port and there's no dust or lint in it. I've had issues with the charger before – it got loose and would fall out if I moved it around too much. Now, I can't get it to charge at all, no matter how I position the plug. The laptop is about two years old and I really can't afford to buy a new one right now since I only use it for paying bills and watching Netflix. Is there any trick to getting it to charge again?

If you're really short on cash, keep an eye on eBay for DC jack repair services. There are many shops offering repairs for around $70. Just make sure to choose one nearby if you can.

It sounds like either your charger has failed or there might be a problem with the port, like a broken connection. A good first step could be to try borrowing a compatible charger from someone, or if you have a USB-C charger that’s at least 65 watts, you could attempt to use that. Just check your laptop's specs online to see if that's feasible.

The best move here is to repair the DC port. Depending on your laptop’s design, the port might be loose or the connection could be broken. If you're comfortable with it, you could watch some disassembly videos for your specific laptop model; otherwise, taking it to a repair shop is a good option.

Just to clarify, is your laptop completely unresponsive, or does it at least turn on but not charge? If it turns on, then maybe the charger and port are working but the battery is dead or there's a power delivery issue.

Since you only use it for light tasks, consider getting a cheap desktop or a used laptop. You can often find something decent for under $100, which could get you through until your finances improve.
