My Laptop’s Acting Up After My Brother Slammed the Keyboard – What Should I Do?

I bought my laptop about a year ago and sometimes let my younger brother play games on it. He's prone to rage-quitting, but I didn't think much of it until one day I heard a loud slam. When I checked, he told me he slammed the keyboard and the screen went bizarre for a moment. After that, everything seemed fine, but now my laptop's performance has dropped significantly. I'm experiencing lower frame rates (around 80 FPS on games like Minecraft) and there's a lot of stuttering in both display and audio. Sometimes windows only update in the areas I move my mouse over, which can be resolved by minimizing and reopening them. Today, I even saw some strange flashing blue and pink colors on the right side of the screen. This laptop was a gift, and I'm worried about what might have been damaged. Are there any steps I can take to fix this?

Have you checked if the screen cable might be loose? That could explain the weird flashes. Also, keep an eye on your computer’s cooling—if the fans are damaged, it could be overheating and causing performance drops. If you find anything abnormal, getting it to a technician ASAP is key!

I’ll check for those loose cables. Thanks for the tip!

Yikes! Sounds like a rough situation. The best course may be to have a technician take a look. They can help identify if it's a simple fix or something more serious. And as for your brother, maybe it's time for a little talk about taking care of shared property!

Definitely! He needs to understand the consequences of his actions. This was a gift, and I don’t want to have to replace it.

Sorry to hear about your laptop troubles! Since your brother's slam seems to have triggered this, I'd definitely recommend checking if it's still under warranty first. If it is, contact the manufacturer—don't do anything invasive yet! If not, you might want to take it to a local repair shop for a proper diagnosis. They can inspect for internal damage and let you know if anything needs fixing.

Yeah, definitely get it checked out. If it's still under warranty, they can probably fix it without cost to you. Just make sure you don't open it up yourself before consulting them.

It sounds like the issue could be related to your RAM. Try running a memory test with memtest86 to check for errors. If you do find issues and your RAM isn’t soldered in, reseating it might fix the problem. Just be super careful when you open the laptop—if you’re not comfortable, leave it to a pro!

That sounds like a plan! I’ll try the memory test first. Hopefully, that’s all it is.
