My PC Won’t Access the Drive After Interrupting a Windows 11 Update

I interrupted a Windows 11 update, and now my PC can't access the drive at all. I've tried a bunch of things to fix it: restarting the computer didn't help, system repair couldn't find any issues and just sent me to safe mode, and system restore throws an unidentified error (0x8007002). I tried uninstalling the update, but it says there are pending updates so no action can be taken. Resetting the PC didn't work either—something went wrong and no action was taken. I attempted to fix the drive with command prompt, but chkdsk failed, wusa isn't recognized, and I can't access the selection distribution folder to close it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When it boots into safe mode, are you able to log in successfully? How did you run the system repair? If you're using the Windows Recovery Environment, have you tried commands like DISM and SFC to check for issues? If nothing seems to work, you might need to use another computer to create a Windows installation drive, boot from that, and give the recovery options another shot.

It sounds like you're really in a tough spot. If you can't even get to the log-in screen and are getting the "attempted to write to read-only memory (0xBE)" error, that definitely complicates things. The system repair through the recovery environment is a good approach. As for your question, yes, there's a difference between a recovery drive and an installation drive. The recovery drive typically helps you troubleshoot and fix issues without wiping everything, while the installation drive is for reinstalling Windows. If you can avoid wiping your data, definitely go for the recovery drive first!
