I recently received an HP z1 g1i Desktop PC from my company, but I've run into a bit of a snag. The power supply doesn't have the usual connections—there's just a 6-pin connector on the motherboard that I'm supposed to use to power a couple of 3.5-inch hard drives. I'm having a hard time finding the right SATA power cable for this setup. Can anyone suggest where to find this cable? Alternatively, is there another method to power two 3.5-inch HDDs?

Check out this PDF on pages 9-10. It seems you might need specific cables labeled P29844-001 or P29845-001. Not sure what's the best way to get your hands on these, though—maybe contact HP for help?
Does your power supply even have traditional SATA connectors on it? Sometimes, pre-built systems like HP or Dell may only output 12V from the PSU, while other voltages are managed by the motherboard itself.
It looks like the PSU only has those connectors shown here, and everything else is already hooked up on the motherboard.
That 6-pin connector looks like a PCIe connection. You might be able to find a 6-pin to SATA cable and give it a shot, but keep in mind that those cables are generally meant to connect to a PSU. I can't guarantee it'll work since it’s coming from the motherboard instead.
I thought so too, but I tried a 6-pin to SATA cable, and it's not compatible due to the pin housing design. Total bummer!
If speed isn't a major concern and you just want to access the files, consider using an external hard drive enclosure. Just make sure it's the right size, and you can connect the drives to your PC via USB. A dual dock is also handy for backups.
Totally agree! Those SATA to USB dual docks are great to have for various needs.

I also checked that out, but all I have left are different cables. Looks like I'm stuck.
