Need Help Installing Windows on a Free Optiplex 3060

I recently got a free Optiplex 3060 from work, but I'm really struggling to install either Windows 10 or Windows 11 on it. The BIOS detects the hard drive, but when I run the Windows installation, it asks for drivers. I've tried many solutions I found online, including installing Intel SRT drivers, but Windows says they're not the right drivers. I've also tweaked various BIOS settings, even updated the BIOS, and swapped in an SSD with an existing boot drive connected via SATA. The PC recognizes it, but I can't boot from it. It's incredibly frustrating because I can see both drives during the Windows installation process. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When installing Windows, you can enter your service tag on Dell's support website. It'll direct you to the specific drivers you need for your system.

Have you thought about changing the SATA operation mode in the BIOS from RAID to AHCI? It’s a common fix for these kinds of issues.

Also, make sure to switch to advanced mode in the BIOS. If you're using the newer Dell BIOS, you should find advanced settings in the top left corner.

Yeah, I read about that being a necessary adjustment online.

Just to clarify, did you download drivers from the Dell site, or are they general Intel ones? Sometimes those generic drivers don’t play well with specific hardware.

I was using general drivers. I didn’t think about looking for Dell-specific ones. I’ll check that out. Thanks!
